In our recent post Take Care of Yourself, we reminded you of the importance of regular self-care so that you can be at your best.
Out of various types of self-care suggestions that we discussed, we heard from quite a few of you that what you need to refuel, is REST.
So, today, we’d like to focus on that very topic and remind you that there are seven different types of rest.
- Physical
- Mental
- Emotional
- Sensory
- Creative
- Social
- Spiritual
As we’ve mentioned in many posts, it can be powerful to get into the habit of regularly reflecting and checking in with yourself.
When you check in with yourself, we recommend asking something like,
“What kind of rest do I need today,
to refuel myself?”
If you find you’re having trouble answering this, you could get more specific and consider asking one or more of the questions below.
Physical: Am I getting the right amount of sleep, relaxation, mobility, or restoration for my body?
Mental: Am I taking enough breaks from decision-making and letting my mind wander?
Emotional: Am I expressing myself in a way that shows compassion for myself and for the other person?
Sensory: Am I taking time away from electronics, loud places, or other types of stimulation?
Creative: Am I finding ways to be inspired by things like nature, music, or hobbies?
Social: Am I surrounding myself with supportive and fulfilling relationships? And, am I embracing alone time when needed?
Spiritual: Am I seeking out ways to connect with my personal sense of meaning and purpose with things like meditation, spiritual groups, or prayer?
If you’d like to learn more about the benefits and types of rest, we recommend a great article on the Calm website.
Consider creating a regular habit of self-reflection and rest, with one or more of the above questions.
Rest up and refuel! The world needs you.
