We’ve recently been discussing the importance of being intentional in Leaving Well. Two weeks ago, we covered Your Team and last week we talked about Your Priorities.

Today, we’re talking about your health and wellness.

Learning how to take care of yourself is critical
so you can live with energy, success, and satisfaction.

Below you’ll find some suggestions to support you in caring for yourself, so that you’re ready to give your best to your next chapter.

If you’re unsure of your worth, consider reflecting on your time at your old job.

  • Think about some of the great experiences (with as much detail as possible) that you had while you were there.
  • Reflect fondly on the good work you did, the relationships you made, and your learnings/growth.

If you’re missing connection to people, places, or things, consider what’s possible to add some of it back into your life.

  • If there are people you’ll miss, think about sending them a note, or finding a way to connect in-person/virtually after you leave.
  • If you find yourself missing parts of the environment or work, think about what’s possible to bring some of that to your life in other ways.

If you’re feeling sad after you leave, that’s okay. Grief isn’t just how we integrate death – it’s also a way we can navigate new truths or realities that have changed our worlds, or even a future we had imagined.

  • Try to remain emotionally agile during this transition time by not labeling your emotions as positive or negative.
  • It’s okay to be both sad to end one thing and happy to be starting something new.

We encourage you to PAUSE often and check in regularly with yourself, during this time.

As you look through some of these suggestions, consider what might work for you.

  • PAUSE each morning to remind yourself of your top health and wellness priority for the day.
  • PAUSE mid-day to check in and see how you’re doing and feeling.
  • PAUSE at the end of the day to reflect on your day and to think about any shifts you might make for tomorrow.
  • Set reminders on your computer or phone to remind you to PAUSE and check in with yourself.
  • Leave notes (in your own words) around the office, car, or house that will aid you in PAUSING and letting yourself know that you matter.
  • Find an accountability partner, friend, colleague, coach, or therapist to support you in PAUSING and maintaining your health and wellbeing during this time.

During this transition, it’s important to PAUSE and reflect regularly on your health and wellbeing. Remember, endings (even when positive) can bring about emotions or a sense of feeling unsettled.

It’s exciting to be moving forward! Let us know how you’re doing.
