We’ve heard from a number of you that you found our recent reminders about LAUGHTER and REST helpful, and yet…you’re still feeling like you have an extremely short fuse.
You’ve said you’ve been dismissive of others, or at the ready for an argument with a loved one, or even quick with a smart remark to a colleague. You’re not feeling like you’ve been showing up at your best.
First, we’d like to say that we hear you and we’re sorry that you’re struggling. It can be difficult to pull up and take a breather when life feels so heavy.
We thought we’d take some time today to re-share the basics of our PAUSE framework with you. If you can practice using this simple PAUSE framework, you’ll be more successful at navigating all that life is throwing at you.
Pausing leads to a decrease in your reactivity
and an increase in your ability to respond
in a way that invites collaboration,
builds trust, and deepens relationships.
The PAUSE is the first step in our Leader in You® leadership framework. Here’s what it can look like:
When you feel yourself getting reactive, PAUSE and take a breath, a sip of water, or a walk down the hall.
Ask yourself, “Is what I’m about to do or say truly in alignment with my goals and values?”
If the answer is “no”, then consider how you might respond as a leader, versus reacting.
That’s it! One moment to PAUSE.
You don’t have to let your reactivity own you. Try implementing the PAUSE this week, and see if you find your stress levels decrease.
AND, if you mess up, that’s okay—it’s not easy to retrain our brains, but it IS possible. We encourage you to keep practicing. You’ve got this!
Let us know how it’s working for you.
