We are always reminding our clients that stepping into your power and claiming the leader in you requires taking good care of yourself—psychologically, emotionally, intellectually, relationally, and physically. As we enter into the prime vacation months, we encourage you to think about how you can make the most of your vacation.
Over the years, many of our clients have described going on vacation only to feel they needed to come back and get a vacation from their vacation. They describe over scheduling themselves, gaining weight, feeling overwhelmed by the needs of their children or other family members, etc. So today we have asked the owners of the highly-acclaimed Pil-oga-robic Fusion Fitness Studio, Hannah Moore and Ariel Nemirow, to provide you support and guidance as you think about your upcoming vacation (and your life as well!).
3 Ways To Stay Stress Free On Your Vacation
Do you find your summer vacations to be a lot like major holidays? You always look forward to them, get excited when they near… and then you remember that your vacation equals a ton of work—logistics, packing, getting things handed off at work, wrangling the kids, cooking, cleaning, the dog, the mail, etc.
We love a family vacation: making wonderful memories, getting away with the family, and having a change of pace, but often by the time you actually get to your vacation, you are exhausted. If you are lucky, it takes the entire trip to unwind from getting ready for the vacation and if not, you return feeling like you need a vacation from your vacation.
Here are 3 easy tips to quickly reduce stress, be present, and find joy in the moments of your vacation:
1. Breathe
Empty the lungs; inhale to a slow count of 1, 2, 3, 4; hold the breath in for a slow count of 1, 2, 3, 4; slowly exhale to a count of 1, 2, 3, 4; hold your lungs empty to a count of 1, 2, 3, 4. Repeat. As you feel the lungs expand, try counting higher in numbers.
2. Walk
A quick walk is always a good idea and a great mood booster. Get a burst of energy by taking a 20-minute walk. Turn off the phone, move your legs, pump your arms, and let your mind wander.
3. Drink water
When your body is dehydrated, it’s stressed. Keep your body feeling good by staying hydrated. The easiest way to do this is always have water with you! Having some drinks at the pool? Alternate every beverage with a 12 oz. glass of water. Running an errand? Remember phone, keys, wallet, and water.
Most importantly, no matter how hectic your trip may get, you will be more able to ground in the moment if you can have a good laugh at yourself and your circumstances, and your positive energy will inspire those you love.
